ANGELS – Wine Diesel did not come alone “Quick X” trailer takeover party at LA Live on Thursday. He brought family.
“Fast Furious” mainstays Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris were on hand to show the four-minute trailer for the first time. “Fast X,” released May 19, is the tenth film in the super franchise that has grossed $5 billion at the global box office.
Diesel, 55, was alone on stage when it came time to roll the trailer for the first time after the audience chanted “Diesel!” (a chant that the ever-shy actor threw himself).
“Guys, I can’t tell you how good it feels after 23 years to be here tonight to unveil the trailer,” Diesel said. “The Super Bowl will see one minute of this trailer. You’re going to see four minutes.”
The trailer will go live Friday at 11 a.m. ET.
How many “Fast and Furious” movies? :Here is the complete list of film franchises.
Diesel wore a t-shirt commemorating the late co-star Paul Walker, died in 2019. Members of Walker’s family were in the audience for the trailer unveiling.
“I was so lucky to be part of this family,” Diesel told the audience. “You truly are, and I say this from my soul, the best fans a movie could ever dream of. You allowed us to be your family. I can’t wait for you to see this.”
Maria Menounos hosted the event, bringing each cast member on stage to discuss the street racing franchise that began with “The Fast and the Furious” in 2001 and is in its third decade.
“It’s been a hell of a journey, we grew up together,” Menounos said. “I was expecting to say this, ‘Fast-10 your seat belts.’
‘Fast X’ villain and ‘Aquaman’ star Jason Momoa introduces Diesel on stage via a video message.
“It’s been a privilege to be in this iconic franchise and to be the next villain to tear this beautiful family apart,” Momoa said.
‘Fast X’ First Trailer: What’s Happening?
Without revealing spoilers, the trailer shows a 10th film centered on the family and the fast car. Momoa’s villain Dante brings emotional hatred and pain to Diesel’s Dom Torreto – by kidnapping his child.
“Never accept death when suffering is due,” Dante says before threatening. “That’s the problem with having such a big family, you have to choose who you love.”
Franchise newcomer Rita Moreno (who plays Grandma Toretto) is introduced at a family reunion. Brie Larson’s mysterious character shows off powerful moves in an on-screen fight.
And count on Torreto to strike back against any enemy, at high speed in his classic Dodge Charger, somehow blasting beautiful parts of Rome, Italy.
“You can never break up my family,” he swears.
