Don’t update to iOS 16.3.1 if you’re a Google Photos user

If you are a Google Photos user, it looks like you should wait for the update to iOS 16.3.1 for now. Users say the update breaks compatibility with the Google Photos iPhone app, causing the app to crash immediately when opened.

iOS 16.3.1 was only posted a few hours agobut there are already a ton of complaints on social media about this issue. Users say Google Photos app crashes instantly when they try to open it after updating to iOS 16.3.1.

We have heard several 9to5Mac readers affected by this bug, and we were able to confirm it ourselves.

At this time, Google has not commented on this issue. Again, it’s only been a few hours since the release of iOS 16.3.1. Even though this bug is apparently related to an iOS update, it will most likely fall to Google to fix it.

If you are a Google Photos user and have already updated to iOS 16.3.1, keep a eye on the app store for an update. We’ll be sure to update this story if we learn anything else about this issue, such as a timeline for a fix.
