After launching last fall, we’re finally getting a hands-on look at Twelve South latest iteration of the leather folio cover. The SurfacePad has been a staple in the brand’s lineup for several years now, and today I’m diving in to see how the latest iteration of the iPhone 14 fare.

Out of the box, Twelve South uses their usual supple napa leather, which in this case comes in two different styles. I’ve rocked the Cognac design myself, but there’s also a black leather style for those who want something a little darker. The slim build contains a fairly thin design that also rocks the edge stitching to bond the leather with a soft felt interior. This is where you’ll find the pair of slots to store everything from cash to ID and credit cards. Each holds up well, and even after months of use still manages to sit quite well in the folio cover. Both cards are also easily removable.

Speaking of how it’s aged over the last few months of use, I have to say that I’m still quite impressed with the quality of the Twelve South SurfacePad version of the iPhone 14. held on. The lighter build allows more room for average wear and tear to make more of a difference, but that has hardly been the case. The front and back cover have a few blemishes here and there, but are largely free of bruises or blemishes.

Whether or not leather develops a healthy patina over time is one of the biggest selling points for accessory makers, and Twelve South definitely passes the test. The soft-touch finish is also worth writing about, with a very comfortable design that feels just as good folded back to reveal the screen as it is with the folio closed.

Over the past few months, Twelve South has made an impression again with its latest SurfacePad case. I brought one of these covers daily with the iPhone 12 version a few years ago, and now I realize how much I missed the form factor. There is no other leather wallet on the market that I can recommend more, especially if you are looking for a thin package which always keep your iPhone 14 in good condition.

A lot 9to5Toys readers will know that Nomadic makes some of the best leather cases on the market and is my favorite option for a standard cover. But where Twelve South claims the throne is with the wallet designs, and the SurfacePad for iPhone 14 arrives absolutely as the best solution on the market. Which does the price of $50 an easy recommendation, especially with how attractive and stylish a bundle you get at the end of the day.
