An Insider tally of announcements from major retailers in 2023 reveals that at least 803 stores are expected to close during the year in the United States.
The justifications are varied: some companies are navigating through bankruptcy proceedings, while others say they want to cut costs.
Topping the list is homeware giant Bed Bath & Beyond, which once had more than 1,500 stores across three brands but now aims to end the year with just 480 locations across two brands.
