Steve Vai clarified comments he made last week regarding an unreleased album by Ozzy Osbourne material.
In an interview with Eonmusic (opens in a new tab) to promote the new album Go / Cut, the guitar legend seemed to suggest his 1995 sessions with the Prince Of Darkness resulted in an album’s worth of material that would probably never see the light of day. But now Vai took to Facebook to clarify the situation (opens in a new tab).
“In a recent interview, I kind of casually talked about ‘Sit on an entire Ozzy album,’ and then the clickbait headlines went viral,” he says.
“To clarify, Ozzy and I got together around ’96 and spent some time trying to come up with potential songs for an album he had already half-recorded. This record came out later as Ozzmose. We demoed a handful of tracks and then there were a bunch of tracks that I built for him to check out. He ended up picking a song to use on his album and that’s my little man. It was re-recorded with his band and the result is awesome.
“Only one other demo track from these sessions contained scratch vocals from Ozzy and I turned over all Master demo tapes to the label and kept safety tapes of the tracks I personally built. “together there was (is) enough music for an entire record, but those songs would require re-recording. The demos are bumpy roadmaps but not the goal.”
“Like many Ozzy fans, I would love if there was a secret hidden Ozzy album somewhere, to be revealed to our surprised ears at a later date, but it wouldn’t come from these sessions. Sorry for the confusion.”
